During a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, 24 June 2015 Cabinet ratified the decision to designate the Maluti-A-Phofung Industrial Development Zone (MAP IDZ) at Tshiame, about 10km from Harrismith in the Freestate province.

According to Minister Jeff Radebe the MAP IDZ will “establish a logistics-orientated platform, or logistics hub 10km outside Harrismith”. The focus of the MAP IDZ will be on the automotive, light commercial, agro-processing and distribution / logistics sectors. Given its location it is expected that the clothing industry may also benefit from the MAP IDZ.

The MAP IDZ is intended to become a multi-sector processing, manufacturing, engineering, logistic services complex serving the needs of upstream value adding, beneficiation, processing and production services companies across business sectors. The MAP IDZ will provide a customs controlled area that will assist international and domestic operations.
