On 17 November 2020, the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development (DALRRD) published the deadlines for submitting Minimum Market Access permit applications on agricultural products for 2021.
Minimum Market Access permits provide preferential duty rates on certain agricultural products. The preferential duty rates are typically lower than the normal customs duty which may result in cost savings.
It is important to note that permits are either granted on an annual, bi-annual or quarterly basis depending on the product. The application deadlines stipulated by DALRRD are as follows:
Annual permits (valid from 1 January 2021 to 31 December 2021) have to be submitted by 15 December 2020.
Half-yearly permits (1 January 2021 to 30 June 2021) – If you intend to import during the first half of 2021, applications need to be lodged by 15 December 2021.
Half-yearly permits (1 July 2021- 31 December 2021) – If you intend to import during the second half of 2021, applications need to be lodged between 1 May and 31 May 2021.

|Quota period||2021 importation period||Applications open||Applications close|
|1st Quota||1 January – 30 April||17 November 2020||2 December 2020|
